We went to Lake Nakuru last week. Honestly it was rather disappointing. There are some flamingos there now, but you can't get very close to them for a good photo (assume this is due to the high water level). I have one pic of a group of maybe 2-300 but it was taken with a very strong telephoto lens at a distance. Except that we didn't see much in terms of animals. One monkey, some buffalo and zebras, that's all. No big cats or rhino. Admittedly the driver we had at the lake was not a good guide at all, so a good guide with a radio may find more for you. Also worth note, Nakuru isn't really on the way to Masai Mara, it's quite a trek north of Lake Naivasha, which is much closer to the turn off for the Mara.
